Description: DUKES, Freda Mae (nee Sullivan) June 19, 1925 - February 21, 2009 We will greatly miss our dear mother who passed away at Extendicare Hamilton Long Term Care, in her 84th year. Predeceased by our father Robert E. (Ted) in 1978; her long time companion, Hank Hogarth in 1997; and 8 brothers and sisters in Nova Scotia. Mom is survived by her loving and devoted children, Sharon Cooper (Lowell), of Lynden, Bob (Bev) of Torrance, Ont., Susan Miller (Don) of Mount Hope and Debbie (Gabe) of Hamilton. Mom also leaves behind beloved grandchildren, Heather, Scot, Rob, Janice, Charlie, Andy, Cheryl, Brenda, Kimberley, Jodi, Scott, Jill, Donnie, Walter and Kevin; great-grandchildren Ben, Grace, Amanda, Kyle, Eric, Lindsey, Megan, Joshua, River, Nash, Steven, Ryley, Jade, Owen, Mikayla, Danielle, Misty Lee, Maggie, Sharon Lee and a little one "still in the oven"; as well as one great-great-granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth. She is also survived by her sister Yvonne and many nephews and nieces in Nova Scotia. We are grateful to and wish to thank those staff members at Extendicare who showed Mom compassion and truly cared about her. We are especially grateful to Pam Clarke of the Alzheimer Society of Haldimand-Norfolk and Deb Bryson for their neverending kindness and support and for their efforts to educate our family and Extendicare in how to understand and deal with Mom's very difficult and rare disorder, which came under the umbrella of the Alzheimer Family of Disorders. Mom was cognizant to her last breath which, in itself, was a mixed blessing. We would have been completely lost in helping her deal with her disorder without the involvement of Pam and Deb. In keeping with Mom's wishes, she has been cremated and a private celebration of her life is being held by the family. Mom has been a long time supporter of disadvantaged children through World Vision and in her honour, donations to Mom's favourite charities, World Vision, and the Crossroads Ministries', in Burlington, Ontario, Treasures in the Trash (an organization that helps children of the world that have to pick the dump for survival), would be appreciated by the family. Mom loved the idea of providing families in third world countries with such things as 2 chickens and a rooster, or a goat and 2 ducks, a fish farm, food supplements or clean drinking water. As an alternative, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated in her memory. We know that God has blessed our mother with her well deserved place in heaven. That He has taken her in His loving arms and will keep her safe from all pain and suffering and that she will exist in His presence in eternal peace. We love you, Mom.
